Straphanger

I have all of Taras Grescoe's books.
He has a knack of choosing interesting topics to write about, whether it's forbidden foods and drinks, the changing nature of the oceans, or the way that everywhere looks like everywhere else....

And of course, from my perspective, the connecting factor is GEOGRAPHY. I've referenced his book 'Bottomfeeder' in several resources on fisheries that I've written in the last few years.

His latest book, which I've just started reading, is about public transport and the connection with the way that cars have changed the nature of cities, and how public transport offers a solution to many urban problems.

He explores the way that growing car ownership is changing cities, with some case studies from cities around the world which would be very useful for urban geography and studies of sustainable transport systems.

"A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It’s where the rich use public transportation.” —Enrique PeƱalosa
