Drought....

Have been doing some preparation of materials on WATER SECURITY for a conference later in the year.

There was a useful article in The Observer last Sunday which suggested that there were some potential impacts of the drought.
One could be the inevitable rise in food prices.
Farmers may switch away from growing crops which are particularly reliant on water usage.

There was also an article in the local paper the EDP today which said that the unseasonal warmth meant that the soils were already at the required temperature for sugar beet to be drilled.

I like the suggestion in the comments of putting a pipe under the new HS2 rail link to bring water from the NW, because of course you go downhill as you head south....
